Grey CountyTreasure Tails retail store is part of the Georgian Triangle Humane Society and raises money by selling high quality home décor, women’s apparel, collectables, antiques and more, generously donated by our community.
All profits from sales go directly to supporting the Animal Centre and Treasure Tails is one of the GTHS’ largest fundraisers.
Description As a Treasure Tails Customer Service Volunteer, you will report to the Store Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day customer service operations at the store, including sales, interacting with customers, money transactions, light housekeeping of the store premises and arranging items for display. You will also be expected to promote awareness of the GTHS, its public programs, promotions and the Animal Centre. Time Commitment Customer Service shifts run Sunday to Wednesday from 10.45am until approximately 3.30pm, and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9.45am until approximately 1pm or from 1pm until approximately 5pm. Available volunteer opportunities are noted at the bottom of this posting. Volunteers are expected to familiarize themselves with new items instore and special promotions at the start of their shift. A minimum commitment of 6 months is required. Roles and Responsibilities Main areas of responsibility:
- Provide assistance and excellent customer service to customers instore
- Respond to telephone / in person enquiries
- Coordinate with donors to book computerized donations appointments
- Proactively promote items on special offer
- Handle money and electronic sales transactions
- Record purchases by hand
- Wrap / bag purchases
- Regularly sanitize counter
- Monitor customers’ movements and blind spots for theft prevention purposes
- Respond to / refer enquiries relating to GTHS services and the animal centre
- After closing, tally day’s transactions, then photograph and email/text Daily Receipts slips
- Sweep / vacuum and mop prior to store opening or after closing
- Follow appropriate protocol, policies and procedures
Assistance when store is less busy:
- Assist with acceptance of items being donated, if / as appropriate
- Assist with merchandising of incoming goods and / or filling gaps post-sale (hanging and on shelves)
- Tidy and replenish jewellery and watch displays, as appropriate
- Dusting and maintain tidy store

"Costs keep rising and money doesn’t stretch. People in your communities are struggling to stay housed, are deciding between buying food or paying for vital medicines, and are scared. Speaking with a knowledgeable, empathetic person can help people create a plan to move forward in a positive way. This interactive workshop will help you learn to work through a budget with someone and help them find resources and use various strategies to manage their finances."
Oversee the development of high-level financial policies and their review by the
board
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and its presentation to the board
for review
• Ensure that the appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are
reviewed by the board
• Ensure that the board regularly monitors the organization’s financial
performance and alerts it to any important discrepancies between planned and
actual figures
• Ensure that the organization maintains the appropriate financial books and
records and that these are accurate and up to date
• Ensure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely
basis
• Ensure that payroll and other liabilities are settled in a timely manner
• Serve as a co-signer of cheques with at least one another signing officer
• Ensure that excess funds and reserves are properly held and invested
• Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants, and service
delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of
funders
• Meet with the external auditor annually 3, or more often if needed, to identify
any financial control and record keeping problems or deficiencies and oversee
action by the Executive Director and financial officer to address them
• Recommend to the board the need for a review or renewal of the auditing
services provided
• Assists the Executive Director and board chair with the development and
presentation of the annual report
• Present or co-present the organization’s financial report and recommend
appointment or reappointment of auditor at the Annual General Meeting
• Helps, along with the Executive Director, keep the board informed of important
financial events, trends, and issues relevant to the organization

Function
Board members are responsible for determining and implementing policies and procedures to achieve the mission and mandate of Big Brothers Big Sisters Grey, Bruce and West Simcoe.
Role and Responsibilities

Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs;

Be informed about agency policies and programs in order to support adherence to the National Standards as set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada;

Possess knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, personnel, and advocacy;

Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work;

Understand and maintain confidentiality;

Avoid any potential conflicts of interest;

Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements;

Assist in fostering positive relationships among the Board, staff and community to support fulfillment of organizational mandate.

Serve as an ambassador for the organization;
General Duties

Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in them;

Attend meetings regularly;

Be an active participant on at least one board committee;

Participate in the review of the Board’s structure, approve changes, and assist in bylaw amendments;

Volunteer Tax Preparers will help people in Grey Bruce to file their taxes.
Grey Bruce Community Volunteer Income Tax Program provides volunteers in locations all across Grey and Bruce County. Volunteers will be need to be matched (and affiliated) with a local CVITP community organization.

Volunteers may have different roles as Tax Preparers depending on their level of skill and/or interest. Volunteer tax preparer may volunteer at in-person or virtual clinics; or file individually online. In some cases, individuals can work from their homes with a Coordinator who drops off and pickups paperwork for filing.

An Automatic Tax Filing program by the Federal government will be rolled out in 2027. Therefore we shall still need volunteers to provide free tax filing for eligible people in our communities.
The Events and Fundraising Director will initiate and manage the Club's events.
Essential Elements:
- Plan, organize and run events inlcuding AGM & Christmas Potlock, End 2 End weekend, trivia nights, Travel adventures, Christmas tree sales, galas, garage sales and online auctions etc
- Liase with the Volunteer Coordinator to build your team and organize volunteer appreciation events
- Liase with the Communications Team to publicize events
- Work with Club Treasurer to report results to the Board
- Connect with the BTC fundraising team and it's peers at sister clubs to exchange ideas/learn best practices
Other:
- Review the Volunteer Orientation Handbook including the Volunteer Pledge, sign BTC Confidentiality Agreement
- Take advantage of the Fundraising Toolkit, avaialble on BTC website
It is helpful to have:
