Description

Description (Service) The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is designed to meet the unique needs of people with disabilities who are in financial need, or who want and are able to work and need support.

The program has two components:
  • Income Support: provides financial assistance and other benefits to eligible people with disabilities and their families. This includes accommodation and basic living expenses, as well as prescription drugs, basic dental care and other supports.
  • ODSP Employment Support: Community based service providers deliver the ODSP Employment Support program to help people with disabilities prepare for and find jobs, keep a job and advance their career. The program can also help people with disabilities become self-employed.

Eligibility To qualify for ODSP income support, you must:
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be an Ontario resident
  • have assets no greater than the limits set out in the program
  • be in financial need
  • meet the program's definition of a person with a disability or be a member of a prescribed class
Being a person with a disability means:.
  • you have a substantial mental or physical impairment that is continuous or recurrent, and is expected to last one year or more
  • the direct and cumulative effect of your impairment results in a substantial restriction in your ability to work, care for yourself, or take part in community life
  • your impairment, its likely duration and restrictions have been verified by an approved health care professional

Application Applicants for the Income Support program must fill out a Disability Determination Package which can be obtained at local ODSP or Ontario Works offices after a meeting with the Income Support Specialist/Caseworker to determine financial eligibility.
Forms must be filled out by the applicant and his/her doctor.
Applications must be filled out and returned no later than 90 days after receiving the package.
