Description (Service) COVID-19 Response Due to concern regarding COVID-19, the facilities listed below may not be open. Contact individual facilities directly to see if they are available to the public.

When Environment Canada issues an extreme heat or cold alert, rest areas are available to residents for relief from extreme weather conditions. These can include public buildings such as libraries or community centres during regular business hours. Other buildings such as malls or cinemas that have air conditioning/heating could also be used.

Contact your local municipality before visiting as locations and hours may be extended or limited depending on season and conditions. Hours subject to change without notice and locations may be closed on holidays.

The following are suggested locations open during normal operating hours:


Arran-Elderslie  (Allenford, Burgoyne, Chesley, Dobbinton, Paisley,Tara)
  • Presently the municipality of Arran-Elderslie does not have any designated rest stations for extreme weather relief.
Brockton (Brant, Cargill, Chepstow, Dunkeld, Eden Grove, Ellengowan, Elmwood, Glamis, Greenock, Malcolm, Maple Hill, Pearl Lake,  Pinkerton, Riversdale, Solway, Walkerton)
  • Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the designated cooling stations are not available until further notice. During prolonged periods of extreme heat, the municipality may declare an emergency and open cooling stations.

  • Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the designated cooling stations are not available until further notice. During prolonged periods of extreme heat, the municipality may declare an emergency and open cooling stations. Notice will be given on the municipal website, social media and new media.

  • Due to concerns regarding COVID-19,  only the Davidson Centre will be available for extreme weather situations. Check with the municipality for details. Call 519-396-3468.

  • Presently the municipality of North Bruce Peninsula does not have any designated rest stations for extreme weather relief.
Saugeen Shores (Burgoyne,  Port Elgin,  Southampton)
  • COVID-19 Response - Under extreme circumstances, Saugeen Shores will open The Plex, 600 Tomlinson Dr, Port Elgin during extreme heat alerts. Notification of opening can be found on the municipal website, https://www.saugeenshores.ca/en/index.aspx​ or social media.

  • Presently the municipality of North Bruce Peninsula does not have any designated rest stations for extreme weather relief.
South Bruce Peninsula (Allenford, Colpoyos Bay,  Hepworth,  Sauble Beach, Wiarton)
  • Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the Sauble Beach Community Centre and the Wiarton & District Community Centre and Arena are not available as cooling centres. The Sauble Beach Library and the Wiarton Library will be open to the public as cooling centres.
